Our History
PALA, Spanish for “shovel”, was founded in 1973 as an industrial contractor performing work for the Louisiana Sugar Industry. Focused on mechanical piping and equipment installations, it was a natural fit to move into other industries such as pulp and paper, refining, and petrochemicals throughout the 80’s. In 1987, we formed our Aboveground Storage Tank and ASME Vessel construction operations. The company grew throughout the 90’s, securing MSA contracts for Small Capital Projects and Tank Farm Maintenance with some of the largest facilities across the gulf coast. In 2008, PALA became Employee Owned (ESOP) via acquisition from the original founding family owners. Through our strong commitment to safety, we formed a Safety Services company in 2012, SMART Safety Group, to help other contractors and manufacturing businesses in their quest to protect their most valued asset—their employees.
PALA is licensed throughout much of the United States. We’re are proud to serve clients in a wide range of industries including, but not limited to, petro-chemical, refining, bulk liquid terminals, government, and food & beverage.
PALA further diversified its business in 2017 through the acquisition of U.S. Fusion & Specialty Construction, whose services are complementary to PALA’s business and core customers, providing specialty installation and welding of various forms of plastic pipe and liners, as well as erosion control and protection systems. Our General Construction group expanded our civil services to include helical piles through the formation of ELITE Helical Solutions in January of 2021, and most recently, PALA added ARCCO Power Systems to the family of companies in July 2021. ARCCO provides sales, installation, repair and maintenance services for commercial and industrial generators ranging in size from 36kw to 2 megawatts.
From our humble beginnings in the sugar mills of Louisiana, we have evolved into a group of growing companies relentlessly focused on delivering the best possible service to our customers and creating value for our dedicated group of employee owners.
