CONSTRUCTION SAFETY EXCELLENCE AWARD - 2000

Recognizes and honors the contractors in the Greater Baton Rouge area who have achieved an outstanding record of safety performance. The Award evaluation is based on:

A) OSHA/MSHA injury/illness statistical data for the site personnel (from OSHA/MSHA log).
B) A written synopsis of the constructor's safety management system.
C) A review of safety performance with one to three client companies for whom the constructor has recently completed work.
D) On-site evaluation by a third-party audit of programs and personnel.

Awards are given in 3 man-hour groups for 2 SIC categories. PALA won 2 out of 6 possible awards in SIC 16, including First Place for projects under 100,000 man-hours.

The STEP program was developed and written by contractors, for contractors. The STEP program provides the following benefits:

Provides and organized approach to analyze and further develop your company's safety and loss prevention program;
Provides a valid, objective method to measure safety program improvements;
Platinum Level offers OSHA Partnership opportunities.

Platinum Level Recipients
The STEP Platinum program is designed to provide special recognition to Platinum level members that have demonstrated the highest safety standards exemplifying the best safety practices and a proven track record of impeccable safety programs and performance.

To qualify for Platinum, member company has to have received STEP Gold two consecutive years, Submit OSHA 200 summary log or equivalent log summarizing OSHA recordables, verify data that supports STEP self-evaluation score, and welcome OSHA to conduct verification audits.

ABC - OSHA Partnership
The new ABC - OSHA agreement is a partnership that requires active participation by both the national offices of ABC and OSHA, and the chapters and local offices of ABC and OSHA. Essentially ABC and OSHA form the same partnership at the local level across the nation. Local ABC members seeking to become a part of the ABC STEP Platinum program. This data is forwarded to ABC's National Safety Department. The National ABC Safety Director conducts random verification visits of Platinum members, oversees the STEP program and submits annual reports to the OSHA construction Directorate.
